The Oak Grove girls soccer team came up one win short of the state playoffs in new coach Zach Herzig’s first season.
The Panthers couldn’t overcome a strong offensive output by the top-seeded Pleasant Hill Chicks in a 5-2 loss in the Class 2 District 11 championship Thursday night at Oak Grove’s Panther Stadium.
“Not the result that we hoped for, but the girls should be proud of themselves,” Herzig said. “This program took a step in the right direction this year and has a bright future.”
Alex Herring and Megan Borland scored the goals for No. 3 seeded Oak Grove, which finished with a 13-11 record after upending No. 2 Boonville 1-0 in Monday’s semifinals.
Pleasant Hill (15-8) advances to face Columbia Father Tolton (5-16-1) in a Class 2 sectional playoff Wednesday.
