The golfers of Camdenton visited Farmington on a chilly Tuesday where the Lakers took on 13 other schools in tournament action.

By the end of the day, the Lakers finished seventh out of 14 teams when they walked off the course about 71 miles south of St. Louis. Camdenton was led by Spencer Melville who shot a round of 87 to place 15th amongst a field of 70 total golfers.

“In my short stint as head golf coach, we’ve never played in weather quite like this. It was 31 degrees at tee-off with a wind chill of 21,” Camdenton coach Shawn Maschino remarked. “On top of that, the course was very wet. I am very pleased with the effort our boys put forth today. It would have been easy to make excuses and give up with weather conditions like that, but they just kept grinding through it. We are looking forward to next week and hopefully some warmer temperatures.”

Camdenton will return home to Old Kinderhook for the annual Laker Invitational on Wednesday and the tournament is lining up to host 28 schools with teams from across the state and a couple of Kansas schools as well.

“It is looking like a great day so far,” Maschino said of next week’s big event. “It’s a big tournament and we truly appreciate the volunteers from Old Kinderhook and Mike Blair from Sonic helping us provide a great atmosphere for golf.”

The tournament is scheduled to begin Wednesday morning and run throughout the day.
