Climax Springs picks up third straight win

Climax Springs will have some momentum heading into districts.

The Cougars picked up their third straight win to close out the regular season as they topped Niangua on Tuesday 60-46.

Jake Reed had a monster night for Climax Springs as he put up a double-double that featured 36 points and 19 rebounds. Meanwhile, Cole Smith chipped in 11 points for the Cougars.

“I thought Jake had his best night to date and Cole had a nice second half,” Climax Springs coach James Butterfield said of his two players. “It was a nice way to finish the regular season by winning three in a row and as young as we are, it gives us good momentum heading into next year.”

But this year is not done yet though. Climax Springs (8-14) will take on Weaubleau in the first round of the Class 1 District 7 Tournament on Monday in Wheatland. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.

Osage comes up short at Southern Boone

Osage was on the road Wednesday night at Southern Boone for a pivotal matchup in the race for a conference title.

Unfortunately for the Indians, the Eagles defended home floor and knocked them out of the race with a 69-59 win.

Osage trailed 17-12 after the first quarter and stayed within striking distance trailing 32-20 at halftime. However, the Indians could not chop the deficit under eight points.

We knew coming to play at Southern Boone was going to be challenging. It always is,” Osage coach Kevin Schnicker said. “I was proud of our guys for the effort they made and never giving up the entire game.”

Keyton Knamiller led the Indians with 18 points while Dalton Depeé added nine and Trey Rassenfoss finished with eight.

Osage (11-12, 3-2 Tri-County Conference) will look to pick up some momentum heading into districts with Blair Oaks and Eldon on the schedule to close out the regular season. The Indians will visit Blair Oaks on Friday at 5 p.m.
