Versailles takes down Tipton
It was a good day for Versailles as the Tigers knocked off Tipton 97 to 77 on Saturday.
Versailles honored members of the 1978 boys’ basketball team during halftime and the current Tigers on the floor did not disappoint.
Jonathon Geier finished with 27 points to lead the Tiger offense and the win put the team at 4-3 on the season. Up next for Versailles is the W-K Shootout in Sedalia where the Tigers will face Stover at State Fair Community College. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
Eldon loses to California in Capital City Shootout
The day started off well for Eldon.
The Mustangs took an early 9-2 lead, but California was relentlesss and walked away with a 91-72 win over the Mustangs on Saturday in Jefferson City.
“Give California credit. They kept plugging away and had a huge second quarter,” Eldon coach Brandon Kliethermes said. “We turned it over too much and gave them a ton of extra looks at the rim because we had a lack of focus. One bad quarter has killed us multiple times this year and we have yet to put a full game together.”
Clayton Moore nearly had a double-double for Eldon with 13 points and nine rebounds while Jordan Metz knocked down 12 points, Chase Fitzpatrick finished with 10 and Devin Degraffenreid chipped in eight.
“We took a step back in rebounding the ball and gave up a ton of offensive rebounds,” added Kliethermes. However, there were a few positives as the Mustangs put together another balanced scoring night on the stat sheet and were efficient at the free throw line knocking down 20 of 25 attempts.
“Not only did we get there a lot, which means we were aggressive offensively, but we made 80 percent of them when we got there,” Kliethermes said.
Eldon (0-8) will visit Lebanon on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
