Macks Creek tops Halfway in Hermitage Tournament

Macks Creek is moving on.

The Pirates opened up tournament play at Hermitage Tuesday night against Halfway and had little trouble securing a 59-29 win in the first round.

Shelby Willis led the scoring with a 25-point night to go with a team-high seven steals, Mylee Hicks chipped in eight points and Madeline Phillips secured 12 rebounds while Jesse Willis recorded seven assists.

Macks Creek (2-1) was scheduled to play in the semifinals Thursday night. Should the Pirates have won, Macks Creek will play for the title Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. A loss would send Macks Creek to the third place game at 6 p.m.

Eldon falls to Fatima

Eldon faced a stiff Fatima defense Tuesday night. The end result was a 75-31 loss to the visiting Comets.

“We simply had too many turnovers. When you turn over the ball more times than you have shot attempts, you’re not going to be very successful,” Eldon coach Ashley Agee said. “Fatima is a very good team and we just did not come to play at the level we needed to win that game.”

Macie Halderman led Eldon with 15 points on the evening after a 25-point outing against Eugene on Monday.

“We are young and have a lot of raw talent. I think time and experience of playing teams like Fatima will get us where we need to be by the end of the season,” Agee added. “My girls are working hard and we are getting better every day. That is a big focus for us.”

Eldon (2-4) will return to the court Monday night against Dixon at 7 p.m.
