School of the Osage had plenty of competition on Saturday at the Missouri Southern Stampede in Joplin in a meet where both the girls and boys’ races featured nearly 400 runners.
The boys finished 35th out of 47 teams as Derrick Puckett earned the top time for the Indians at 17:45, which earned him 136th. Meanwhile, the girls took 27th out of 44 teams and Micah Hill led the Osage pack in 111th with a time of 21:17. Only one Class 3 team finished ahead of Osage.
"We were solid as a team this weekend," Osage coach Miriam Hill said. "Weather conditions were extreme with temperatures in the 90s, but most of the team showed improvement from last year's times on the exact same course. Both teams are showing continued improvement and we are looking forward to our next two meets at Hermitage and Camdenton."
Osage will return to action Saturday at Hermitage. The meet is scheduled for 10 a.m.
