Lakers finish seventh in team standings

Camdenton swimmers brought home some hardware.

The Lakers hit the pool at Monett for the Monett Invitational on Saturday where Camdenton took on 11 other schools. The Lakers finished seventh in the final team standings with 159 points while the host school won the day with 371 points, but there were still plenty of highlights.


The day began with the 200-Yard Medley Relay where the team of sophomore Jeremy Bernabe, senior Blake Lapine, sophomore Michael Radlund and junior Josef Bernabe finished seventh out of 11 teams with a time of 2:03.

Camdenton competed in one other relay and it was the best performance of the day for the lake area swimmers. The team of Radlund Lapine and the Bernabe brothers finished second in the 200-Yard Freestyle Relay with a time of 1:42, trailing first place Monett by just three seconds.


Radlund got things started for the Lakers in the individual events with a fifth place finish out of 13 total swimmers in the 200-Yard Individual Medley at 2:24.

The Bernabe brothers represented Camdenton in the 50-Yard Freestyle along with Lapine. Josef took third with a time of 24.21 seconds out of 33 total swimmers, Lapine earned ninth at 26.19 seconds and Jeremy earned 12th at 27.32 seconds respectively.

The 100-Yard Butterfly saw 17 swimmers enter the pool and sophomore Bryce Leuenberger was the fastest Laker with an 11th place time of 1:19. Freshman teammate Dane Lapine was right behind him though taking 12th at 1:19.

Blake was the lone Laker in the pool for the 100-Yard Freestyle and the senior took fifth out of 28 swimmers with a time of 59.04 seconds.

Radlund was back in action for the 100-Yard Backstroke and earned fifth once more out of 17 swimmers with a time of 1:07. Josef finished right behind him taking sixth with a time of 1:08.

Last but not least, a total of three Lakers hit the pool for the 100-Yard Breaststroke and Jeremy was the fastest Camdenton swimmer earning 13th out of 25 swimmers with a time of 1:23. Leuenberger took 16th at 1:25 and Dane finished 20th at 1:32.

Camdenton was back in action at Springfield Thursday night against Kickapoo and the Lakers will take on Springfield Central on Tuesday at Foster Natatorium in Springfield. The action is scheduled to get underway at 4:30 p.m.
