School of the Osage senior Roman Trowbridge hit the courts at Mexico on Tuesday night to compete in a Class 1 sectional for singles play with a trip to state on the line.

Trowbridge met Kirksville’s Ruslan Pultz who was a returning state qualifier a season ago and Pultz showed exactly why he was a state tennis player as he defeated Trowbridge in two sets by final scores of 6-0 and 6-1.

“I believe he (Pultz) placed seventh last year and will be in the mix to win it all this year,” Osage coach Matthew Fuglsang said. “Despite the loss, Roman has had a great career for us at Osage. He was a big part in our last three district championships.”

Time will soon tell if returning players can carry on the success established by players like Trowbridge and those before him.
