CHEERS

To the Camdenton High School Soccer Lakers who broke new ground with the program’s first win ever over perennial state power Rolla, then knocked off Lebanon to clinch their first Ozark Conference championship and first undefeated conference season. They also earned their first top seeding in the district  tournament, which runs this week.

To Horizons school students and teachers for joining the annual fall shoreline cleanup and turning education into a real-life lesson sure to leave a lasting imprint in both student minds and on the shoreline.

To the tradesmen and women, along with many others, who volunteer time to help the lake chapter of Habitat For Humanity help select families build their own home. H4H invites the public to help them dedicate homes Nos. 9 and 10 for the Hafley and Rideout families at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7 at the homes on North Ozark Drive in Camdenton.

And JEERS

To Attorney General Chris Koster for his move to use his office to fight yet another court ruling. Last week, Koster’s office announced he had gone to bat for a CAFO that lost out on a bid to operate near historic Arrow Rock. We’re disappointed the AG has chosen to pick up right where Gov. Blunt DNR hack Doyle Childers left off championing Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations near Missouri’s most treasured resources. Koster told the AP he supports “expanded buffer zones” yet joined the fight to remove the ones set by Cole County Judge Patricia Joyce.

To the finger-pointers in charge who left several homeowners without the sewer services they were promised AND paid for when the books for the Camelot sewer district project were closed. As befuddled as this project has been since day 1, we don’t think they can blame the former LOCOLG director for this gaffe. Those homeowners who paid a large fee to be hooked up ought to be demanding answers – which they apparently have been for quite some time – and ought to be given them, which they have not.

To the bridge jumper who evaded police by leaping off the Grand Glaize bridge, then swam to shore near a restaurant. We’re glad the young man is unhurt, but he owes a huge apology to the many emergency responders who spent their time looking for him before the Water Patrol dive team was called in. And while we’re at it, a cheer to the father who taught his son a hard lesson in responsibility by bringing him to the police station to pay the piper for his dance.
