THE ISSUE Open house for master plan is Tuesday

WHAT WE THINK “Speak now or forever hold your peace” seems apropos

For better than a decade, Camden County residents and their elected governance have struggled with developing a master plan to organize and legislate unfettered growth in unincorporated areas of the county that surround Lake of the Ozarks.
In 2008, the county planning department set about revising the plan that was finally put in place 5 years ago.
The result will be presented to the public at an open house Tuesday evening.
This is not an event just for developers, or just for realtors and bankers.
EVERY RESIDENT of the county ought to be interested enough to stop by and take a look, but sadly, many won’t. Odds are, they’ll be the first to complain a short distance down the road after it is approved.
Camden County Planning Director Chris Hall put Tuesday’s open house in easy-to-understand terms: “It is by no means the final proposal. We can’t stress enough the importance of public input.”
This is not just your chance to see what the plan will be, it is your opportunity to shape the plan through comments and questions.
Regardless of whether you own a million-dollar-plus home, a modest 2 bedroom bungalow (remodeled 2 or 3 times over the years), an old cabin or a mobile home along the lake front, and whether you are lakefront, second tier or just live in a neighborhood near the lake (the planning zone extends up to 5 miles from the shoreline), this master plan will impact your life, your home and your future.
You owe it to yourself and your family to stop by. And the county wants to know what you think of the plan and the changes it will make to planning for the future.
