The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has posted AmerenUE’s Shoreline Management Plan for Lake of the Ozarks online for public comment.
Residents have until July 10 to post their comments.
There are at least three areas of the plan that will no doubt spark interest and debate among lake residents, developers, realtors, lenders and those with other business interests at the lake.
They are:
1 AmerenUE’s plans to protect resource areas
2 limit the length of dock slips
3 banning docks, seawalls and patios that come to or extend over the shoreline. The shoreline is defined as being within AmerenUE’s boundaries, which can extend anywhere from 662 to 670 feet above sea level, depending on the location.
Structures that already exist are expected to be “grandfathered” in under the new regulations, which are primarily aimed at new developments with increased emphasis for resposibility being placed on landowners and developers for maintaining environmental continuity.
It should be noted that we are near the conclusion of a nearly decade-long process for the re-issueing of AmerenUE’s license to operate the dam and power plant at Lake of the Ozarks.
While the license to operate the dam and power plant has already been granted, issues remained with the Shoreline Management Plan.
That process is now also nearly complete.
This may well be the final time residents have to comment before the conclusion of the federal process.
If you have an opinion on the plan or its impact on life at Lake of the Ozarks, now is the time to voice it.
