Opinion: 5 things we would like to see happen next week
1 A response from Raul Walters Inc. on its plans for the High Pointe Shopping Center TIF redevelopment project in Osage Beach. And while we’re asking, any plans for its shopping center in Camdenton now that Orscheln’s has joined the community and filled the old Wal-Mart building?
2 Camden County resident involvement in the final steps of the revised master plan. The planning department expects to have the plan online in a couple of weeks or so. Residents who were unable to attend this week’s open house can post comments there
3 The director of the Department of Natural Resources, Mark Templeton, to search high and low until he finds a qualified hydrologist who is capable of answering media questions about water flow as it relates to the presence of E. coli in Lake of the Ozarks.
4 The city of Laurie receive positive feedback for improving the look of the Routes 5-135 intersection at the north end of town. Put safety first and the idea to “think welcoming” is a good one. We hope the idea is followed through. The tough part will be deciding what best represents what Laurie has to offer.
5 Motorists to turn their headlights on when it’s raining. It’s the law in Missouri, and it promotes higher visibility that increases safety on our roads. An informal count Thursday morning revealed most motorists are turning headlights on – 86 percent of 117 vehicles on Route 5 counted between 10:30-11 a.m. had lights on, which is a much higher percentage than the last survey in which about 25-30 percent did not.
NOTE: Of the 97 northbound vehicles counted between Rt. F and the Pier 31 Road exit, 85 had lights on including one very wet motorcyclist and one pickup with a headlight out. Of the 20 vehicles counted between Pier 31 Road and the Lake Sun Camdenton office on Business Rt. 5, 16 had lights on.
