What a lovely front page photo of the Lake’s “Top 10 Women in Business” in your Memorial Day Weekend Edition. Their sincere passion for the Lake area is evident.
We all agree with their message – “everyone loves the Lake”.
I was thinking as I read the article that maybe they had a plan to clean it up or some new data about the health of the Lake, but the message seemed only to be “everything’s fine, come on down.”
No data, no new testing, no new plan. Same thing with that other new group you highlighted – Citizens for Preservation for Lake of the Ozarks.
I grew up here in the Lake area, and although I no longer live here full time, it still means a lot to me.
Common sense tells me you can’t use the Lake as a huge sewer, run thousands upon thousands of oil leaking boats, and fill it with pesticides from manicured lawns without having even a tiny bit of an issue with water quality. Or maybe a big issue eventually.
Maybe thinking ahead and having a plan to keep it from getting worse is a good idea.
With that said, I don’t think Lake businesses have anything to worry about.
The current downturn is probably caused by the economy in general – not articles about e-coli.
The economy will be back and so will all the boozing, party loving, money spenders to the Lake area.
You’ll be fine. Don’t change a thing. Just start building more condos, selling more and bigger non-sales tax paying cruisers, and don’t worry about all the faulty septic tanks.
Unchecked growth, greed and absolutely no regulation always ends well – for a few people, at least!
I love the lake and have loved it for many years, just like your “Top 10 Women in Business”. Shame on them for what they and other community leaders are allowing to happen to such a wonderful place.
