The Sunny Slope sewer system is a mess! That is the opinion that one gets, when told by the powers to be related to the sewer district, that the system had been poorly planned, poorly designed, poorly installed and opinions vary on the quality of its maintenance.
I wondered how Mr. Rives would prosecute people for the very things he has done. But after reading his comments in the Tuesday paper, it seems he doesn’t plan on prosecuting drunk drivers or the bums who don’t pay child support.
After reading the article concerning the debate between Mr. Keedy and Mr. Rives in the Camden County prosecutor race, I felt the need to comment. I can understand Mr. Rives feeling sympathy for the criminals that drive intoxicated and do not pay their child support. While holding the office of Prosecutor for the City of Lake Ozark, he took money (and kept it) from a charged drunk driver to “make the ticket go away” and only lose one point on her license.
Finally, I am heartened by the recent action taken by our legislature to negate parts of Obama care. These are the parts that other states have brought lawsuits against. They are obviously an invasion of states’ rights and the right of the people to be free of the heavy hand of the federal government.
I was not surprised to read about the clerks in our county courthouse doing what they did to support Rives. This is not the first time, I'm sure. It has happened to me on two different occasions.
Generally, I try to cut MoDOT and the crews that work on our roads some slack. It can't be easy keeping up with the maintenance of our roads and completing new improvements on tight budgets. Every once in a while, they do something that just doesn't seem to make sense and you are almost obligated to say something.
Gov. Jay Nixon wants Missouri law makers to give Missouri money we don’t have to Ford. I vote no!
Re: “Newly renamed Isle del Sol condos seek ferry replacement”
In response to Deanna Wheeler’s report about the goings-on at the North Shore’s 4 mile marker, I have but one word to say: “Bleee-aaaugh!” Pardon my gastric reflux response... but the topic makes me absolutely sick to my stomach!
It seems to me, along with all the other front page news in the past few days, that the newspaper is almost bragging that we catch more than any other lake or river in Missouri. Look at us... we stop them all until we get our count!
Physicians of the Missouri State Medical Association, the state's largest physician organization, are outraged that Congress broke its promise to seniors by allowing a 21 percent cut in Medicare physician payments to go into effect.
By permitting the cut to occur, seniors and military families will face a risk of health care access.
In the June 23rd paper the Editor commented it was time for the Federal Govt to take over the BP oil spill.
I’ve heard this comment from others also . My question is; “And do what”? Isn’t it obvious by now the Federal Govt has no expertise in this area?
The sad part is both BP and the Feds were supposed to have an action plan in place.
Gov. Nixon dealt tens of thousands of students from working and low-income Missouri families a devastating blow Thursday by slashing $50 million from Access Missouri, the state's only need-based college financial aid program.
Members of Independent Colleges and Universities of Missouri are particularly disappointed that Gov. Nixon chose to substantially cut Access Missouri while modestly cutting the merit-based Bright Flight program and keeping the A+ program for students attending community colleges intact.
Recently, the topic on a local talk radio station was the societal impact of video games.
The commentator asked her guest, an educator, his opinion as to whether or not video games increased the threat of violence in our society.
I listened to the discussion with interest as both the commentator and educator made solid points on both sides of the issue.
As a lifelong lake area resident, I can no longer stand by while the Water Patrol panders to special and political interests. Public safety is deteriorating before our very eyes.
There have been opinions shared publicly recently in the newspaper regarding the dangerously high levels of E. coli found in the waters of our lake necessitating the closure of public beaches by DNR.
I myself commented and stated my concerns regarding this very important public health issue (my article being the only one expressing real alarm).
This a different view to the opinion, “Protest could be costly” dated June 2nd. Certainly, as was indicated “experience” is important. I doubt any one would disagree, particularly if over the age of thirty.
Isn’t it ironic? Building an expensive bridge at the Lake Of The Ozarks to connect communities. What a great idea, The first of its kind in Missouri. The problem is that the private investors dreams never quite became reality. A lot of locals have never been comfortable with the bridge. The Lake of The Ozarks Community Bridge Corporation (a non profit) is becoming or has become a TDD.
I read about the bridge TDD filing and the plans for improving MM, TT and F - to provide easier and safer access to the west/east side I assume.
As a west sider I think gouging us with the increase in the bridge toll starting in April makes me think twice about all the good businesses and services we do have on the west side.
What a lovely front page photo of the Lake’s “Top 10 Women in Business” in your Memorial Day Weekend Edition. Their sincere passion for the Lake area is evident.
We all agree with their message – “everyone loves the Lake”.
