We lack a consistent national voice on our Vision for America, and our statement of goals to reach this vision. And we need new, young participants and candidates!
In the profession of Planning, there is a simple activity of basically 3 steps taken before a project begins: First, describe your problem; Second, choose between alternative solutions; and Third, go get ‘em!
While all politics may be “local”as our late great House Speaker famously said, some activities toward strongly held goals can be described more generally for all America. We hold currently too few State Governor and Legislative offices. We lack a consistent national voice on our Vision for America, and our statement of goals to reach this vision. And we need new, young participants and candidates!
The vision has always been with us as Democrats: A prosperous, representative democratic country, whose opportunities and necessary support services are equally available to all. In foreign affairs, a country setting the example of working toward this vision, through support toward this goal in developing and deteriorating nations-----with the frequent help of our United Nations.
The accomplishment of goals toward this modernization of our long-held beliefs in both individual freedom and security for our nation needs updates for Twenty-first century solutions.
Our districts for federal officials must be fairly redrawn; our financial support of schools and our persons who attend them must be equalized and increased; our medical service network must be made universally available; our job opportunities and transportation system must be revised for a new world of life in the age of robotic and energy-appropriate solutions. Internationally, our efforts must be primarily toward the elimination of nuclear weapons and military support for the fair development of more and more free and open societies for the world’s many fascinating cultures.
Presently, the clogged status of our federal government, and the unfair, vulgar and ignorance of much of our public issue discussion in the media, are all destructive of this vision for a new America instead of positive, loving, intelligent activity for the good of all.
The Republican Party’s group support of this destructive direction for our government is encouraging the very destruction of our way of life.
Persons of good will from any political party can and should work together for this Twenty-first Century, this Millennium Three, New America. It is time for us as New Democrats to lead the way!
