And in fact, is the current discussion about the problems in America or is it about something else such as just taking sides on honoring the Flag and the Anthem?

Things have changed a lot, since I was a kid in the 40’s and 50’s! A child was taught to respect elders, go to a Church of your parents choice, do the best you could in school, be respectful of teachers, and whoa be it to a kid telling his parents he got a spanking in school. I only made that error in commutations once, which was not pleasant.

America moved into the 60’s and Flag burning and draft card burning and a host of other examples of our freedoms became in some cases ghastly to me! And Martin Luther King and the Kennedys changed the discussion in America!

With that said, a lot of good came of the 60’s and some bad came along too! Flag burning or disrespecting the Flag to me, was always a very, very reprehensible thing.

Freedom of speech and actions can be a good thing, and it can also stick up its head as a mob action.

Most recently, just take a look at St Louis and the aftermath of Ferguson.

And now as we look at the present day, and probably for the rest of all NFL seasons, Respecting the Flag or the Anthem has become a symbol that is polarizing America.

And I have got to ask, with all the hoopla and protesting in this way, what has been fixed?

And in fact, is the current discussion about the problems in America or is it about something else such as just taking sides on honoring the Flag and the Anthem?

I am seeing things about boycotting the NFL and their sponsors!

I am seeing a president that wants it to stop!

I am seeing the NFL and NFL players coming out stronger on the protest!

It is a big news seller! Hmm!

It is also obviously very divisive?

And again, I must ask again, what has been fixed?

There has got to be a better way! Can anyone imagine not standing for the anthem or honoring the flag in 1945, in 1950, in 1959?

In my view, Freedom of speech is a wonderful thing and we all need to use our Freedom wisely! Otherwise, who is listening!
