What I do know is the emotions around wake damage, larger boats on the lake being operated with no concern for others or improperly is a problem hard to deal with, if there is not a Water Patrol officer “THERE” to see the infraction.

Property damage at the lake is only a 4 month affair in reality. I have suggested things to local officials, to our elected officials, and who knows what the results have been?

What I do know is the emotions around wake damage, larger boats on the lake being operated with no concern for others or improperly is a problem hard to deal with, if there is not a Water Patrol officer “THERE” to see the infraction.

I have a neighbor who called about a problem. A water patrol boat showed up, but the perpetrators were gone! What is the Water Patrol to do in that situation?

Numbers of boats are impossible to see from most homes.

Next, the Shootout and the Poker Run! These events tied together, make a lot of money for someone!

And these two events draw people to participate globally. They are professionals in a way.

Yet the people coming to view the event show up randomly, but all leave, pretty much at the same time, and that creates havoc, when you mix in a bit of drinking from the closest places that sell alcohol, it is not a good situation for property owners.

And property owners do complain about damages, yet there has never been from what I can tell, an actual total dollar amount placed on damages to docks, property and shorelines. Somehow the financials need some numbers!

And let no one forget, enjoyment of the lake is an important part of the local economy.

And the safety issue stated by Chuck Bumpilori, is also out there that is important to anyone having fun on the water.

One thing that would solve part of the problem is those sponsoring the Shootout and the Poker Run; must be financially obligated to fix what their event damages! The event itself, if it causes related damage to property, then the event organizers need to pay for it!

Hand wringing by the organizers, saying they are doing all they can does not pay for dock and shoreline damage. It is kind of a half hearted, “I can feel your pain” maneuver to just let the problems of damage go on!
