Modernized nuclear power appears to be an obvious part of the solution for future energy needs.
Your newspaper devoted two pages bashing nuclear power. Your FALLOUT headline lacked only pictures of fireballs, mushroom clouds and destroyed cities. Your readers might like a more balanced information source such as “https://whatisnuclear.com/”.
The subject is complicated but some counterpoints can be made.
1. Over 90% of nuclear waste from most present types of reactors is usable as FUEL. The rest of the material has relatively short decay periods. Recycling could resolve the waste storage problem. Government regulations now prevent the recycling of nuclear waste because of the plutonium produced. Plutonium can be used in weapons.
2. There are other types of nuclear reactors that do not create plutonium nor the same types of waste as present uranium reactors. I believe there was once a government push toward the present type of reactors because of the need for plutonium in the weapons program.
3. Wind and solar power depend on the weather and can not be brought up on demand. Fossil fuels will always produce greenhouse gases. Modernized nuclear power appears to be an obvious part of the solution for future energy needs.
