85, World War II Navy vet owned and operated Laguna Beach Resort
Rodney Otto Jung, 85, of Macks Creek, Mo., passed away peacefully June 4, 2009, at Lake Regional Hospital in Osage Beach, Mo.
Rod was born Dec. 7, 1923, in O’Fallon, Ill., a son to Otto and Dorothy (Neville) Jung.
After serving in the Navy during World War II, he returned home where he met and married Betty Kaemmerer on May 19, 1948.
In 1957, they moved to Lake of the Ozarks, where they owned and operated Laguna Beach Resort for 19 years. Rod and Betty enjoyed dancing from their dating days through later in life. Betty preceded him in death one year ago in January.
Rod was a down to earth type of guy who didn’t need all the fancy things others thought they needed.
He loved to hunt and fish, especially duck hunting and was out every opening day of duck season. He also enjoyed bowling and was involved in youth programs.
Rod liked to watch golf and college basketball, even keeping a bracket during March Madness and he was an avid Red Sox fan.
Rod is survived by his six children, Craig and Connie Jung of Kenai, Alaska, Doug and Dawn Jung of Kenai, Alaska, Randy and Trish Jung of Macks Creek, Rocky and Tina Jung of Ozark, Mo., Wendy Larkin of Ozark, and Tammy and Tony Swanson of Bedford, Texas. Rod is also survived by 16 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Rod was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Betty Jung and his grandson Robert Jung of Lake Ozark.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at 10 a.m. at the Hedges-Scott Funeral Home in Osage Beach. The family will receive friends for visitation from 9-10 a.m. prior to services at the funeral home.
A military service with full military honors and interment will be held July 1, 2009 at 2 p.m. at the Springfield Veterans Cemetery in Springfield, Mo.
