77, active in Girl Scouts, Brownies, Cub Scouts, the PTA and youth sports


Katherine E. Lukacs, 77, of Sunrise Beach, formerly of Sedalia, died Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009, at her home.
She was born Aug. 24, 1932, in Sedalia, Mo., the daughter of Harry and Ethel (McCabe) Lambirth.
On June 17, 1956, at First United Methodist Church in Sedalia, she married Richard Lukacs, who survives of the home.
She was raised and educated in Sedalia, graduating from Smith Cotton High School in 1950. She worked at Southwestern Bell Telephone for several years before becoming a full time homemaker.
While her children were growing up, she was active in Girl Scouts, Brownies and Cub Scouts. She and her husband were both active in PTA and youth sports.
She found time to help other children working as an assistant teacher’s aide at the Virginia Flower Therapy Center, as an evening housemother at Show Me Christian Youth Home in LaMonte and helped her parents at their kindergarten.
She was also a member of the Bothwell Hospital Auxiliary. She was a life long member of First United Methodist Church in Sedalia where she was a member of the Women’s Society and a Sunday school teacher.
After she and Richard moved to Sunrise Beach in 1994, they attended Ozark Chapel in Laurie where she enjoyed playing in the bell choir. She was very active in Bible schools and enjoyed Bible study groups at both churches.
Also surviving are four children; Kay Beth Faubian and her husband Craig, of Chesapeake, Va., Barbara Rollins, of Chandler, Ariz., Nancy Lukacs, of Sunrise Beach, and Richard Lukacs and his wife, Shari, of Jefferson City, Mo.; two grandchildren Steven Faubian and Sarah Faubian; two sisters in law, JoAnne Lambirth, of Sedalia and Polly Lambirth, of Camdenton; and several nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Claude Lambirth.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009, at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Richard White officiating.
Burial will be at Crown Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Barry Brock, Bryan Brock, Bob Lambirth, David Lambirth, Jim Lambirth, Scott Thieret, Flem Cheatam and Thomas Mueller. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Youkey and Harry Lambirth.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 6, 2009 at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Ozark Chapel Building Fund in care of McLaughlin Funeral Chapel.
