Florence Elizabeth Kurth Meuse was born July 26, 1925 in White Plains, NY. Florence attended White Plains High School where she was very popular and wrote “Flo’s Clothes” bylines for the school’s newspaper. She attended art school in NYC until meeting the love of her life, George Meuse before he left to serve in WWII. They married July 27, 1945 and celebrated 65 years of marriage. With George a pilot in the United Sates Air Force, they began crisscrossing the country from base to base, Texas to New Hampshire, California to Delaware.
George and Flo retired to Omaha, then to Osage Beach, MO and Leesburg, FL. They had a fun-filled life of swimming, water-skiing, Omaha Knights hockey games, Brandeis Dept. Store, endless traveling, gardening and of course, her artwork. Florence pursued every possible avenue to express her artistic talents in her painting of landscapes and wildlife. She also loved crafts and collages and along the way experimented in almost every medium from weathered wood, starfish to marble. Florence entered her creations in local competitions and sold her work at art shows for many years. She was painting on her last day, January 4, 2012.
Florence made many enduring friendships thoughout their Air Force experiences, her numerous artistic passion, volunteering and activities at Hawthorne Park. Florence is survived by four daughters: Adrian Meuse-Thomalla, Allison MacAllister, Beth Johnson and Amy Meuse-Sutter. She is also survived by a sister, Peg Weinberg, twelve grandchildren and countless friends. Florence will be buried with George in Arlington National Cemetery, Washington DC.
