80, WWII Navy veteran owned and operated Hihowryah Repair in Laurie


Philip Homer Metzler, 80, of Laurie, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2009, at Lake Regional Hospital in Osage Beach. 
He was born July 18, 1929, in Colby, Kan., the son of the late Philip Hawkins and Lucille Naomi Cummins Metzler.
On April 2, 1970, in Tucson, Ariz., he was united in marriage to Sharon Cupit Hagen, who survives of the home.
Homer owned and operated Hihowryah Repair in Laurie since 1981. He was a United States Navy veteran having served in WWII.
 He was a member of the Ozark Chapel United Methodist Church in Laurie, and the American Legion Zack Wheat Post #624 in Sunrise Beach.  He loved to read, and enjoyed raising miniature horses.
In addition to his wife, Sharon, he is survived by six sons, Ron Metzler of California, Dennis Metzler of Louisiana, Bruce Metzler of California, Lonnie Hagen of California, Dennis Hagen of Missouri, and Thomas Hagen of California; one daughter, Janet Shelton of California; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two brothers, Leo Metzler of California and Merle Metzler of Kansas; one sister, Myrna Griffin of Missouri; and many other relatives and friends. 
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Sam Metzler.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
