Walter P. Bortnick, 82, of Lake Ozark, Mo., passed away July 25, 2008, at Lake Regional Hospital.
He was born Nov. 18, 1925, in Kansas City, Kan., to Sophie and Nicholas Bortnick who emigrated from Poland.
He served in the United States Marine Corps in World War II and received two Purple Hearts. He had a varied career that included sales, manufacturing and business ownership. He was a member and past officer of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers.
He served numerous roles as a member of the Knights of Columbus and was recently elected Grand Knight.
He is survived by his wife, Cherie; his brother, Michael Bortnick; sons Michael Bortnick, Martin Bortnick, Stephen Bortnick, and David Bortnick; daughters Donna Bortnick, Janice Edwards, Paula Crow, and Laura Bauml; and six grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m., Monday, July 28, at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 2411 Bagnell Dam Blvd., Lake Ozark, MO.
Funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Wonderland Camp in Rocky Mount, Mo.
