Officials of the village of Sunrise Beach have distributed and are now collecting surveys from as many of the 116 households on the Route 5 corridor as they can.
This survey was originally scheduled to have been done in June but was delayed to get other paperwork in line for the proposed water and sewer system projects.
The responses could have an important impact on funding the proposed second phase of the water system and the wastewater system.
The village needs an 80 percent return on this survey in order for it to count with the U.S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), according to village planner Roger Corbin. That’s about 93 households.
The survey will manually update the 2000 U.S. Census statistics so that Sunrise Beach may receive more federal funding for the installation of the proposed utility systems through a Community Development Block Grant.
The form was provided by HUD, and the results will be tabulated by the state of Missouri. Just like the Census, the returns will not be traceable. Recipients do not have to identify themselves. The city will supply a mailer for returning the survey.
“There’s nothing to be afraid of. We just can’t wait until the 2010 Census to do this project,” Corbin said.
This survey should also account for any vacant houses along the planned route, he said.
