The cities of Osage Beach and Lake Ozark have been given approval to increase the capacity of the joint wastewater treatment plant to 3 million gallons per day.
That’s an increase of about 1 million gallons per day over the 2 million the plant currently handles.
Technically, the plant had already met the requirements set by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, but the two cities had not pursued approval for additional capacity, Osage Beach Mayor Penny Lyons said.
The approval for the added capacity will allow the treatment plant to keep pace with growth and development, according to Lyons.
“We have managed to keep the plant upgraded, adding a third clarifier and additional ultra violet lights,” Lyons said. “We have also added an additional bar screener that acts as a filter.”
The cities share the operation of the plant. Costs are based on usage, she said. Osage Beach accounts for about 85 percent of the flow.
