The largest utility provider in Missouri won one of 15 national awards from the Secretary of Defense for supporting American soldiers deployed overseas. Ameren Missouri recieved the Employer Support Freedom Award for assisting its military employees.
Ameren was one of more than 4,000 nominees for the national award. It joins companies such as 3M and Ford Motor Company on the list of 15 winners.
Only employees serving in the National Guard or Reserve or their families can nominate a company for the Employer Support Freedom Award. Companies cannot nominate themselves. Bruno Stopka, Ameren Missouri supervising engineer and commissioned officer in the Missouri Air National Guard, was one of several employees who nominated Ameren.
“I am grateful that Ameren places so much value in supporting military employees and their families,” says Stopka. ” This positively affects the ability to focus and complete military obligations for the duration of deployment. The company is certainly doing a great service in preserving what our nation stands for.”
Stopka pointed out that Ameren employs 600 veterans. Nine percent of those veterans were hired in the last year. Ameren employs approximately 9,500 people. Ameren Missouri pledged up to $1 million in energy credits to help support families of soldiers deployed overseas.
“To stand out among the many thousands of employers who firmly support our Citizen Warriors is a testament to the remarkable efforts of these 15 recipients,” said Dennis McCarthy, Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs. “On behalf of the Department of Defense, I congratulate the 2011 honorees and thank them for serving as outstanding partners in our nation’s defense.”
