A rocky, muddy nature trail will be transformed into a disc golf course designed to attract serious enthusiasts and curious rookies. The Camdenton Board of Aldermen approved a plan to turn part of the city's nature trail into a disc golf course last year.
Gary Braman and a team of volunteers with a passion for the sport got to work clearing fairways, designing tee boxes and setting the large metal baskets that serve as holes. The course will be located next to the City Park baseball and softball complex.
The progress
Since work began last summer, the 9-hole course off of Ball Park Road has taken shape to the point that it should be fully open for public play before the first day of spring. Volunteers have some earth work and finishing touches like course markers and signs to complete before the course is considered fully operational.
Camdenton's park board will recommend an official name for the disc golf course.
The Board of Aldermen will consider the official name for approval in February.
What is disc golf?
-Played like tradition golf, but with flying discs instead of balls and clubs
-Players try to complete the course using the fewest throws possible
-Golf discs are made for special purposes (driver, putter, mid-range)
-Holes are usually 200-300 yards long
-A typical 9-hole outing takes an hour and a half to play
