Teams came from all over, even from overseas, to compete in the Laurie Hillbilly BBQ Cook-Off. Held at the Hillbilly Fairgrounds in Laurie from Aug. 5-6, the 19th annual event saw 61 teams do their best to come away with braggin' rights and prizes.
One team even came all the way from England. Members of the Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS), the Best of British BBQ Team came to the Laurie event after hearing about it through the KCBS.
"We all have several grills and barbecue every weekend. We just love to barbecue," said teammate Ben Bartlett from Bristol, England.
The British team said they were having fun at the contest and enjoying their visit to the area.
All the competitors seemed to be having a good time Saturday as they geared up for judging.
Lotta Bull BBQ team was back at the Laurie cook-off again after about a five-year hiatus. Mike and Debbie Davis hail from Marietta, Okla. and attend a barbecue contest about every weekend, according to Mike.
In their 17th year of competition, he says he doesn't eat as much barbecue as he used to. It's more about the "thrill of competition."
