There was no mustard to be found, but firefighters from the Mid-County Fire Protection District found more hot dogs than they’d care to remember.
Firefighters were called to a motor vehicle accident on South Route 5 near Spencer Creek Road shortly before 5 p.m. Friday.
Upon arrival, they found a tractor trailer off the road and on its side and a vehicle pulling a boat in the roadway. There were no injuries, however it was discovered that the tractor trailer was carrying 7,123 cases of hot dogs.
The semi could not be lifted until the load had been transferred to another truck.
Firefighters assisted in transferring the load from the wrecked semi to another truck. A pumper also remained on the scene for lighting as the wrecker from Bledsoe’s righted the truck and removed it. The last unit cleared at 11:40 p.m.

On Saturday, June 27th at 0923hrs the Mid County Fire District responded to a medical call at the Windermere Complex off of State Route AA. The person was transported to Lake Regional Health Center.
On Saturday, June 27th at 1141hrs, the Mid County Fire District was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident on north State Route 7 just north of State Route EE. First arriving units found several vehicles involved. One of the vehicles was a motorcycle whose driver was fatally injured. One other driver was injured and transported to Lake Regional Health Center. Units remained on scene assisting with traffic control. Units cleared the scene at 1316hrs.
On Saturday, June 27th, at 2022hrs the Mid County Dive Team was dispatched to assist with locating a missing swimmer in Anderson Cove. The swimmer was recovered by units from the Missouri State Water Patrol prior to the dive team arrival and the dive team was cancelled in route.
On Saturday, June 27th at 2123hrs the Mid County Fire District responded to a reported brush fire at the east end of the west 54 Niangua Bridge. First arriving found a large debris pile burning. The fire was extinguished and all units returned to service at 2140hrs.
On Sunday, June 28th the Mid County Fire District responded to a reported smoke alarm sounding with an odor of smoke present in a unit at the Clearwater Condominiums on Clearwater Drive. First arriving units found a odor of smoke present. The cause was found to be a malfunctioning water heater. Damage was contained to the water heater. All units cleared the scene at 0239hrs.
On Sunday, June 28th at 0955hrs, the Mid County Fire District was dispatched to a residential structure fire at 48 View Drive off of North State Highway 5. First arriving units found smoke showing from the residence. Fire was found in a closet on the lower floor and was being controlled by the homeowner when the FD arrived. The area was overhauled and fans were used to remove the smoke. The fire was caused by an electrical short in the closet that set the items being stored in the closet on fire. The fire damage was contained to the closet with the rest of the structure receiving smoke damage. There were no injuries and units cleared the scene at 1116hrs.
On Sunday, June 28th, the Mid County Fire District was dispatched to a head on accident on North State Highway 5 at the intersection of Old Highway 5. First arriving units found a sedan with extensive damage and a mini van also with extensive damage. There were occupants trapped in both vehicles that had to be extricated with hydraulic rescue tools. Two helicopters were called. There was one fatality and 5 other injured. Mid County responded with 2 engines and a brush truck and 14 personnel. Sunrise Beach responded one engine and there were 2 Camden Ambulances District ambulances and 1 Cam-Mo Ambulance that also responded. After all of the injured had been transported the FD assisted with traffic control and road clean up. All units cleared the scene at 1342hrs.
On Sunday, June 28th at 2059hrs the Mid County Fire District responded to a reported brush fire in the Seven Trails West subdivision off of State Route 5. Units extinguished the fire and cleared at 2130hrs.
