Police believe they have Eldon's New Year's Day arsonist behind bars. A monthlong investigation peaked Tuesday with the arrest of Samuel N. Dykens, 34, of Joplin.
Dykens is in the Miller County jail in Tuscumbia on a $100,000 bond. He faces four charges of arson. Eldon Police Chief Rodney Fair announced the arrest and charges.
The New Year's fires began just after Eldon residents rang in 2012. The first occurred on East 8th Street just after midnight, the second on West 8th street occurred at 12:41 a.m. and a third fire began a block away in a garage that a company used for storage.
The Eldon Police Department worked alongside investigators from the Missouri State Fire Marshal's Office and the Missouri State Highway Patrol in the search that led them to Dykens.
