Three people were killed in separate accidents reported around the lake area over the weekend.
An accident late Sunday morning claimed the life of a 16-year-old from Columbia, Mo.
A 1997 Mitsubishi driven by Eric A. Benda, 39, of Columbia, was southbound on Route 5 when a northbound 2006 Honda driven by Sharon S. King of Grain Valley, Mo., attempted to make a left turn at the Old Route 5 Cut-Thru, according the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
At about 11:40 a.m., the Honda pulled into the path of the Mitsubishi, which struck it nearly head on, according to the report. A passenger, Eric A. Benda, 16, was pronounced dead at the scene by Camden County Medical Examiner James Jungles at 12:30 p.m.
Gregory A. Benda, 15, received serious injuries along with the driver. Both were taken to St. John’s Hospital in Springfield by helicopter. None of the occupants in the Mitsubishi were wearing seat belts, according to the report.
The driver and a passenger, Larry D. King, 60, who were wearing seat belts, received moderate injuries and were taken by ambulance to Lake Regional Hospital in Osage Beach.
A Sedalia, Mo., man was killed Saturday in a three-vehicle accident at 11:45 a.m. on Route 7, 1/10-mile north of Route EE in Camden County.
Robert D. Sinclair, 49, was killed when the 1982 Honda motorcycle he was driving crossed the center lane and struck a 2000 Chevy Silverado in the side. He then re-crossed the center line and struck a 2003 Honda Odyssey head on, according to Highway Patrol.
Sinclair was pronounced dead at the scene. He was wearing a helmet, the report said.
Shawn T. Blancho, 32, who was driving the minivan, was taken to Lake Regional Hospital with moderate injuries. The driver of the pickup truck was not injured.
In a separate accident later that night, a Lee’s Summit, Mo., woman was killed in a one-car accident on Camden County Road 527 near Moon Glitter Road.
Jacqueline N. Taylor, 47, was killed when she failed to negotiate a curve and drove her 2002 GMC off the left side and struck a tree.
The accident occurred at about 10:40 p.m. Taylor was pronounced dead at the scene.
The patrol reported that Taylor was not wearing a seat belt.
