A man has been arrested on charges stemming from a May incident in which an 11-year-old boy was shot while playing outside on his grandparent’s porch.
Nathan J. Scheulen was charged with two felony counts of unlawful use of a weapon which carries a possible sentence of up to life in prison if convicted.
Scheulen was apprehended by the Lincoln University Department of Public Safety Thursday morning, according to a news release issued by the Miller County Sheriff’s Office.
Shortly after he was arrested, he was handed over to Miller County authorities. He is currently being held on a $250,000 bond.
On May 21 witnesses reported seeing Scheulen driving a truck in the area when the shooting incident happened. Witnesses also reported that shots had been fired from the truck shortly before the incident at a nearby location, according to the release.
The 11-year-old was playing on his grandparent’s front porch on Ridge Road when he was shot in the leg.
The victim sustained injuries and was transported by ambulance to the Capital Region Medical Center and then transferred to the University of Missouri Medical Center.
There, he underwent surgery to remove the bullet lodged in his right leg.
