Just put it back where you found it, and we won't ask any questions, say Enchanted Village of Lights organizers about a hand-painted wood cow that was stolen from Laurie park the night of Oct. 26.
"The worst part is they stole from the nativity scene," says long-time EVOL volunteer Bob O'Bryan.
Volunteers have begun the hard work of putting up the many displays for the 16th annual drive-through holiday light park, which opens to the public Saturday, Nov. 21, in the city of Laurie's Hillbilly Fairgrounds.
The nativity scene display had just been installed during the day of Monday, Oct. 26. Coming back to do more work the next day, the workers discovered that the cow had been broken loose from its mounting and was gone.
Whoever took the cow had also tried to take the sheep. In the attempt to loose the sheep from its moorings, its head was broken off.
"They left it, I guess because it was broken," said O'Bryan who had just spent the weekend making new mountings for the nativity characters.
He estimates it could cost close to $100 to replace the cow if it is not returned.
Laurie Park & Events coordinator Susann Huff commented, "It's just plain orneriness. Why would you just steal a cow? Bring it back, and we won't ask any questions. Just bring it back where you found it."
