Representative Wanda Brown is hospitalized with serious injuries following a one-car accident Monday morning at Crockerville on Highway 52 in Benton County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol report, the accident occurred around 8:20 a.m. Jan. 31 when the vehicle Brown was driving eastbound on Highway 52 between Stover and Cole Camp went off the left side of the road and overturned. She reportedly lost control due to the icy conditions of the roadway.
Brown, 44, was transported to Bothwell Hospital and then flown to University Medical Center in Columbia, according to the Highway Patrol.
The report indicates that she was not using a safety device.
According to an e-mail from her legislative assistant Dan Kleinsorge, Brown was on her way to the Capitol in Jefferson City from her home in the Lincoln area for the legislative session when the accident occurred.
Also in his e-mail, Kleinsorge says that Brown suffered a broken neck and back. She is not paralyzed, he says, but is suffering from pain in her back and legs. He adds that a full recovery is expected following surgery and physical therapy.
Brown represents District 116 in the Missouri House of Representatives. That includes portions of Benton, Morgan and Pettis counties, including part of the lake area. Newly seated earlier in the year, Brown is on the Appropriations - Public Safety and Corrections, Financial Institutions and Economic Development committees, and is the vice chair of the Workforce Development and Workplace Safety Committee.
