Amendment #1 would give sole authority to one person to draw districts that stretch from urban St. Louis deep into rural Missouri in an effort to create more seats for Democrats.

Be an informed voter. Amending the Missouri Constitution is a SERIOUS matter and eveyone should take it SERIOUSLY! Every Missourian should vote to make their voice heard, but we should do our research and understand the proposal before we vote. The people who write these proposals have learned how to FOOL THE PUBLIC. Amendment #1 is a perfect example. The purpose of this amendment is to radically change the way the state does redistricting. There is nothing wrong with the way it is done now. A committee of equal Republicans and Democrats do the redistricting, it then goes to the Missouri General Assembly, and the Governor for approval. Amendment #1 gives all of that power to one unelected bureaucrat appointed by the State Auditor. No other state in America gives total power in redistricting to one person and for good reason.

Millions of dollars in out-of-state money has been flowing into Missouri to back Amendment #1. The reason is simple. It’s all about power. Rural Missouri is largely conservative and urban areas like Kansas City and St. Louis are largely liberal. Amendment #1 would give sole authority to one person to draw districts that stretch from urban St. Louis deep into rural Missouri in an effort to create more seats for Democrats. In the process, Amendment #1 would enact the most radical plan to gerrymander state legislative districts ever devised. These districts would zig-zag across our state in an effort to have urban politicians represent rural Missouri. I BELIEVE THAT OUR REPRESENTATIVES SHOULD BE CITIZENS FROM OUR COMMUNITIES AND ELECTED BY THE PEOPLE FROM OUR COMMUNITIES.

The rest of Amendment #1 is to distract you from their radical gerrymandering plan and gives power to politicians in St. Louis and Kansas City. The campaign finance contribution limits are only changing present regulations by $100. It is a clear ploy to fool you into voting Yes. The deceptive wording of Amendment #1 is an insult to Missouri voters. None of us should be fooled by it. I am voting “NO” on Amendment #1 and you should too!
