Camdenton Football kept the highly paced momentum going this week with solid performances on all fronts during their victory again Parkview. The team’s home opener saw a number of standout performances and eventually culminated in a 44-6 victory.
Coming off a 49-0 victory in their season debut, the team looked to continue pushing the air attack in their 5-wide offensive scheme and take opponent Parkview by surprise. It seems that the strategy prevailed as the Vikings had few answers throughout the night to the Junior Paxton DeLaurent led offense.
Parkview opened the game with the ball and did little to spark any momentum, as the opening drive led to a punt. Shortly after receiving the ball for the first time, DeLaurent opened the bountiful offensive night with a 91 yard touchdown pass to Senior Lathan Wise, turning the score to 7-0. Parkview would follow the touchdown with a quick three and out before Camdenton would run the field again with a touchdown pass from DeLaurent to Senior Cash Calton for 6 yards. Camdenton would go into quarter 2 with a lead of 14-0, though did give up an interception before time ran out.
Parkview opened quarter two with a long drive which appeared to end in a touchdown run, though this would be called back on a holding call. Camdenton was able to thwart this effort and avoid and points from the opposition. Camdenton would go later into the quarter with a drive and saw DeLaurent utilize his scrambling skills to complete a 16 yard run for a touchdown. This would put Camdenton up 21-0 and that would be the final score going into halftime.
Camdenton led the second half with the ball and made quick work within two minutes of gametime to complete a 6 yard rush by Sophomore Eli Griffin, giving the team a 28-0 lead. Shortly after, Camdenton would force a three and out and return the ball to offense which, yet again, would make short work of the defensive effort, resulting in another touchdown from DeLaurent to Calton for 12 yards.
Toward the end of the third quarter, Parkview would finally get their offense clicking and did succeed in making their only score of the night on a 3 yard rush by Junior Trevor Boice. Before the quarter could end, Wise was able to intercept Parkview and lead the team to a final score in the quarter on a 21 yard passing touchdown from DeLaurent to Senior Jaben Shockley, making the score 41-6.
The fourth quarter moved quickly as the time was run freely to move the game forward. Camdenton did make their only field goal of the game halfway into the quarter, but this wrapped up the offensive scoring in the quarter. Wise would also go on to secure his second interception of the night within the final three minutes. The game would end with a final score of 44-6 in favor of the Lakers.
The Lakers ended the night with on 15 rushing attempts, totaling in 56 yards and two touchdowns. DeLaurent attempted 38 passes on the night, completing 21 for a total of 350 yards and four touchdowns with one interception. Nicholas caught 6 passes for 91 yards, Shockley caught 3 passes for 49 yards and a touchdown, Calton caught 3 passes for 27 yards and two touchdowns, and Wise completed his dominant night with 2 catches for 113 yards and one touchdown.
Camdenton moved to 2-0 on the season and will face West Plains September 7 in West Plains. The Lakers will be home again on September 14 to face Central.
