Classes were in session as usual on Thursday at Eldon High School after an alleged threat was posted on social media and shared with other students.

School officials and law enforcement learned of the threat Wednesday evening. Parents of students were notified around 6:30 am Thursday morning through the school’s automated calling system. The school did not release the details of the threat.

“In this day and age, we take all threats seriously in order to protect our kids,” Superintendent Matt Davis said According to a statement released jointly by the school district and Eldon Police Chief Brian Kidwell, at no time were students in any danger. The threat was “quickly contained”.

School staff and the police department are working both side of the situation on a criminal and administrative level with the school. Kidwell and Davis said due to the ongoing nature of the investigation additional information would not be released.

In a Facebook post, the police department assured parents the threat had been dealt with and students were safe to attend school.
