Caleb Steffen, M.D. joined JCMG Surgical Specialists in July 2018and brings a new specialty to JCMG: Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Dr. Steffen is a Missouri native and joins JCMG after 8 years of residency training in general surgery and plastic and reconstructive surgery at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine. He focuses on medical reconstruction while also offering a full array of aesthetic surgical services.

Alisha Hinds, D.O., joined JCMG Gastroenterology on August 6. Dr. Hinds brings a new procedure to Jefferson City, endoscopic ultrasound, which is a minimally invasive diagnostic procedure used to assess digestive diseases. Dr. Hinds completed an Internal Medicine residency at the University of Missouri-Columbia and a Gastroenterology fellowship at Baylor Scott & White.

Benjamin Cook, D.O., joined JCMG Family Medicine on August 16. Dr. Cook completed his residency in Family Medicine at Western Reserve Hospital in Cuyahoga Falls, OH. He is an honor graduate from A.T. James Tyler Merchant, D.O., will begin a Family Medicine and Obstetrics practice at Missouri Valley Physicians of JCMG in Marshall, MO this month. He will provide full-scope family medicine services, ranging from prenatal care to delivering babies and caring for children and adults both in and out of the hospital setting. Earlier this month, well-respected independent practice Neurology, Inc in Columbia, joined Missouri Medical Group, JCMG’s regional extension. Five highly-respected neurologists came aboard as a result of that merger: Justin Malone, M.D., David McLaren, M.D., James Koch, M.D., Myles Goble, M.D., and Komal Ashraf, D.O.

The growth of JCMG’s independent, outpatient model is reflective of the direction healthcare seems to be headed, according to Jeff Patrick, M.D., JCMG president. “JCMG is well-positioned to thrive,” said Patrick. “Top physicians continue to be attracted to our independent environment where they can own their business and work most freely with their patients. Employers and patients continue to be attracted to our cost-effective model.”

In the wake of the SSM/MU Health acquisition announcement, Patrick believes independent, outpatient care will be more important than ever for the Mid-Missouri community. “In communities that consolidate to single-health systems, we typically see a significant increase to the cost of care,” said Patrick. “These costs are passed directly on to employers and patients in the community. Cost-effective care is part of JCMG’s original mission and vision, and we remain committed to protecting healthcare costs for the community we serve by continuing to offer a high-quality and cost-effective choice.”

Established in 1993, JCMG is one of Missouri’s largest independent multi-specialty groups owned and operated by physicians. JCMG employs more than 100 healthcare providers in 30 medical and surgical specialties.
