The Arc of Missouri will be hosting their Annual Educational Summit on Tuesday, September 11, at the Courtyard Marriott, 3301 Lemone Industrial Blvd. in Columbia, MO from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Topics to be covered include guardianship and supported decision making.

We are pleased to announce our keynote speaker for the 2018 conference is Jonathan Martinis. Mr. Martinis is the Senior Director of Law & Policy at Burton Blatt Institute, and Project Director for the National Resource Center for Supported Decision Making in Syracuse, NY. In 2013, Jonathan represented Margaret “Jenny” Hatch in the “Justice for Jenny” case – the first trial to hold that a person has the right to use Supported Decision-Making to make her life choices instead of being subjected to a permanent, plenary guardianship.

Other event speakers include: Dan Wheeler- Attorney at Kirkland Woods & Martinsen LLP; David English- Professor of Law at University of Missouri Law School; Delores Sparks-Program Coordinator at MO Developmental Disabilities Council; Sheryl Feutz-Harter-Attorney for Forbes Law Group; Elizabeth Moran- Attorney for Midwest Advocacy for Disability Rights; Susan Eckles- Attorney for Missouri Protection & Advocacy Services; and Dr. Sally Smith-Transition Program Coordinator for North Kansas City School District.

This one-day educational Summit will appeal to individuals with intellectual & developmental disabilities and their families, those in the social services field, home health agencies, mental health professionals, school teachers/administrators, attorneys and others who support individuals with intellectual & developmental disabilities. Cost to attend the Summit is: $85 for professionals; $15 for family members and personal attendants, and $25 for the general public.
