A Lebanon man was injured after reportedly falling asleep at the wheel of a car he was driving on US Highway 54 Tuesday afternoon.

Benjamin Savittiere received injuries described as moderate in the Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report. The 69-year-old was taken by ambulance to Lake Regional Hospital.

Th report states Savittiere was westbound in a 2010 Chrysler Sebring when he fell asleep, and the car went off the right side of the roadway west of Runabout Drive in the Osage Beach area. The vehicle struck a culvert and flipped end over end multiple times before coming to a rest on its roof in a ditch. 

The report indicated Savittiere was wearing a seatbelt.

The car was totaled and was towed from the scene. 

The accident occurred around 3:45 p.m. August 21, 2018.
