David Lenus Covington, 78, passed away on July 12, 2018 at the Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans’ Hospital. David was born in Kansas City, Kansas on December 19, 1939.
He is survived by wife Ellen, son Doug Fields (MaryKay), his daughter Grace Fields and son Marlon Fields; daughter Eva Cannon, her daughter Emily Rose (Nick). He is survived by sister Betty, brothers Donald, Dixie and Rosemary. He was predeceased by father Joseph Covington, mother Eva Covington Broughton and brothers Joseph and Glen.
Dave joined the Navy December 27, 1956 and was honorably discharged December 26, 1962. In the Navy he served as a radioman on an aircraft carrier. He was an electrician by trade. Active in the community as a Boy Scout leader, volunteer firefighter for Lake Ozark, pastor and elder in his church, Lions Club and VFW. He was an avid collector of Indian artifacts and a member of the Archaeological Society, hunting, fishing and in later years an avid gardener.
Visitation will be 10 a.m.-12 p.m. Monday, July 16, 2018 at Hedges Scott Funeral Home in Kaiser, Missouri. The funeral will follow at 12 p.m. at the funeral home. Following the funeral, there will be graveside service, and then everyone will meet at the Lions Club in Lake Ozark for talking and lunch around 2:30 p.m. Please bring a dish to pass for everyone, as this will be a potluck style lunch. The family hopes to see Dave's friends for this celebration of his life.
