Already at full capacity, the 44 unit affordable senior living property officially opened to residents in February of this year. Open to people aged 55 and over, the property is still accepting applications for residency, however there is a waiting list.

Spaciously built with handicapped accessibility in mind, the energy efficient apartments have some special amenities such as a secure front entrance, coffee bar, workout area, game room with pool table, computer lab, flat screen tv's in the common areas and an elevator.

The large three-story building also includes everyday amenities to residents such as ceiling fans, washers, dryers, refrigerators, dishwashers, cook top ranges, microwaves and 24-hour maintenance is provided by George Hughes.

Forty-two of the units contain two-bedrooms, while only two contain one-bedroom. Aside from the bedrooms, each unit has a beautiful and spacious kitchen with plenty of cabinet and counter space, large laundry room, living room and handicapped accessible bathroom.

"It's nice to have low income housing for seniors and we're proud to be the first property of its kind on Lake of the Ozarks," said Fish Haven property manager Stephanie Maxwell.

Three residents opened their doors for the public to tour, proud to show off their brand new apartment homes. Moving into her second floor, two-bedroom unit in mid-May, resident Sharon Kelley could not be more pleased with the Fish Haven community, "The first time I saw it, I fell in love and knew this would be home for me."

An outdoor patio area with two cooking grills is a meeting point for some of the residents to gather and get to know each other, while others choose to play a game of billiards in the commons area of the third floor.

Oklahoma native and new resident Sharon Stonecipher also showed off her new apartment to onlookers, "This is a great community already, with friendly people, good management and the price is great."

Renting one of only two one-bedroom apartment homes, resident J.R. Doerr says he too enjoys the people he is living beside each day, "It's a wonderful place to live, there is plenty of room and it's really quiet."

Lake Area Chamber Director K.C. Cloke was on hand to assist with the ribbon cutting ceremony. Cloke says she has sat in on many economic development meetings for the Lake area and is pleased to see lower income housing being built.

"Our workforce goes hand in hand with housing and these are the kinds of properties we need to bring to the area so we can continue to grow," said Cloke.
