A sex offender in Eldon is facing new charges related to his status on the registry.

Steven D. Thompson, 54, was convicted in 1994 of sexual abuse of a minor involving a 13-year-old female victim. He is now charged in Miller County with failure to register, residing within 1,000 feet of a school post-conviction and being physically present at a park with a pool. All three charges are Class E felonies.

According to a press release from the Miller County Sheriff’s Office, Thompson failed to properly report a change of address to the sheriff’s office as mandated by federal and state sex offender registry laws. The sheriff’s office completed their investigation of that matter on July 9, 2018, and reportedly located Thompson during the investigation at the Eldon Aquatic Center, a protected location from sex offenders.

Thompson is now being held at the Miller County Adult Detention Center. Bond was set at $50,000.
