The Lake Arts Council (which also sponsors the student art and photo quests) launched a new competition this year: the Senior Story Quest, a short story contest for high school seniors at Lake of the Ozarks.

The stories were limited in length to a thousand words or less, and the students' chosen genres spanned time travel, ghosts, magical adventures, and touching life lessons. The stories were each assigned a number for unbiased review, and a panel of judges selected their top three favorite tales.

Along with engraved awards, the winning authors were given prize money ($50, $75, and $100). The Lake Arts Council hopes to build a more substantial scholarship fund for future contests by selling a printed collection of the submitted stories.
