Lake Bloomers recently attended the Federated Garden Clubs of Missouri’s 85th state convention in Blue Springs, Mo.

The six members got inspired for celebrating National Garden Club week in June after hearing the accomplishments of clubs around the state. By participating in the objectives that FGCM stands for: clubs could be receiving monetary awards or certificates.

The Lake Bloomers brought home eight honors by monitoring two blue bird trails in Laurie Park, maintaining two public gardens at Laurie Knolls, sponsoring two Blue Star Memorials, one in Ha Ha Tonka State Park in Camdenton and another at the Gravois Fire Protection on O Road in Laurie. A Garden Center at the Sunrise Beach Library is in place featuring a new theme monthly and during the school year we hold educational programs for first through fourth grades at Hurricane Deck Elementary School.

The 46 members stay very busy and find time to maintain our own gardens and share them with a member tour in June. In the spring, they divide their blooms and hold a plant sale to award a $1000 scholarship annually and finally in January and February they take a recuperation period and make plans for a new year.
