Who’s ready for some farm-fresh eggs? Local farmers’ markets are opening for the season and there are plenty of reasons to visit one in your area. Homemade breads, organic produce, crafts and other locally-grown items are available.

With a slower spring season arriving in the Lake area, some vegetables aren’t quite ready to harvest but they will be soon. Make sure to check back often for seasonal produce and products. Here’s a look at the Lake area farmers’ markets and what they are offering this season.

Sunrise Farm Market

Open from April through September, this Sunrise Beach market is celebrating its 20th anniversary.

Always popular is the selection of rod iron and garden metal art, but this time of year people are after hanging baskets and flowers. There is a wide variety available. Pottery, including larger pieces, are also a favorite among shoppers, too. We love the flying pig garden art and large, colorful sunflowers. There are a lot of items that can bright up your garden or front porch!

The greenhouse is filling up with vegetable plants, herbs and perennials. Local tomatoes and asparagus is in season.

Hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on Sundays.

Camdenton Farmers Market

Opening May 5, head to the Square in Camdenton for a selection of local goods. The market opens at 7 a.m. Produce, plants, flowers, grass-fed and grass-finished beef, pastured pork, potter, handmade candles, pies and other desserts will be on hand.

Coyote Creek Ranch will be providing farm fresh chicken, which is one of our favorite finds. You can’t even get these prices at the grocery store! Also, Brad and Cheryl Wetzell have been creating all kinds of artisan woodwork to sell which we are looking forward to seeing.

Linn Creek Farmers Market

A new market has opened this season. The Linn Creek Farmers’ Market is held on Fridays through October 5 from 4-9 p.m. Vendors are still needed and welcome to call Deby at 573-317-6333.

The goal of the market is to promote a place to exchange earth-friendly products and services, provide a family-friendly environment and to inspire local talent and trade in the community. Artisans featuring fiber art, stained glass, clothing, pottery as well as vendors with homemade toys, sauces, spices, baked goods, produce and services to spotlight are welcome to set up.

Eldon Farmers Market

What a great way to stock up before the weekend! Open on Friday afternoons at the Rock Island Park in Eldon, where you can buy fresh and local. Everything offered must be homegrown, hand-crafted, or hand-made. Items vary throughout the season, but here's what we already know will be at the first market: fresh salad greens and early vegetables, pasture-raised pork and beef, lamb brats and ground lamb, artisan sauerkraut, vegetable and bedding plants, specialty herbs, hanging baskets, pineapple and strawberry jam, fresh-baked bread and chocolate chip cookies, hand-poured candles, handcrafted pillows and travel bags.

The Stylish Gardener is always a favorite with her assortment of soaps, lip balm, slaves, shampoos and other herb-infused products. We love her lavender lemonade!

The market kicks off May 4 and is open from 3-6 p.m.
