An Independence teen was seriously injured in a four-wheeler accident on a roadway in Camden County Saturday night.
Brandon J. Schwermer, 19, was subsequently arrested for failure to maintain the right half of the roadway and driving while intoxicated - first offense by a Missouri state trooper.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report, the wreck occurred as Schwermer failed to negotiate a right bend on Appalachian Lane, off of Route F and Cozy Cove Road in the Sunrise Beach area, at 11:20 p.m. April 21, 2018. The 2001 Honda 400EX four-wheeler was northbound and ran off the left side of the roadway, striking a culvert.
Schwermer was airlifted by the Staff for Life helicopter to University Hospital in Columbia for treatment.
The report indicated Schwermer was not wearing a helmet.
The MSHP online arrest report showed he was arrested at 12:19 a.m. April 22, 2018 and was released to University Hospital.
