A Miller County deputy has been killed in a traffic crash on Route Y.
According to information from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, they received a report at 6:05 p.m. Friday that a deputy had been involved in a collision on Route Y near Rabbit Hill Road southwest of Eldon. Preliminary investigation found that the deputy was on Route Y on his way to a call when he came upon a fire truck responding to an unrelated call. Attempting to pass the fire truck, the deputy’s vehicle struck another vehicle head-on.
The deputy was killed in the crash. The driver of the other vehicle was seriously injured and was flown to University Hospital in Columbia for treatment.
The 26-year-old deputy had been with the sheriff’s office about one year. The family of the deputy has been notified, but further details have not yet been released regarding either the deputy or the driver of the other vehicle.
The Miller County Sheriff's Office has not issued a statement at this time, but has posted their logo with a blue line through it and other local agencies have been following suit. The Morgan County 911 & Emergency Management Facebook page commented, "Thinking and praying for our neighboring county on the loss of their Deputy tonight."
