A School of the Osage teacher is being held on $300,000 after allegedly admitting he had inappropriate contact with students.

Mark Alan Edwards, 44, of Eldon,  was arrested on April 18 and charged with statutory sodomy of a person less than 14 years old and sexual contact with a student. He was taken into custody after being questioned by the Miller County Sheriff’s Department. The sheriff’s department had been contacted about possible misconduct between a teacher and a student. Edwards is being held in the Miller County Jail on $300,000 bond. 

The children allegedly involved were questioned by a forensic interviewer and with the cooperation and assistance of the School of the Osage, investigators were able to gather evidence directly related to the case. The charges stem from incidents between April 9 and April 17. 

Edwards was subsequently interviewed at the sheriff’s department and allegedly provided an admission that he had been involved in inappropriate contact with a student. 

According to court documents, one incident took place in Miller County on a bus, a second offense allegedly took place during a bus ride on a field trip in Cole County. Edwards was observed on a video of one of the trips sitting next to the student, using a coat to cover the victim’s lap.
