Make plans now to attend the annual Newcomers/Longtimers Home Tour at Lake of the Ozarks. In its 24th year, the tour has grown to provide a peak at six beautiful lake homes in both Porto Cima and The Villages near Sunrise Beach on Saturday, May 19, 2018.

One home on Via Cresta features exterior architectural elements reminiscent of homes at Cape Cod or Nantucket with a complex steeply-pitched gable roofline, beefy columns clad in stone and a rough-hewn stone foundation with a cedar shingle clad siding.

Another home marries rustic and contemporary design with a natural fire pit as the focal point in the backyard counter-balanced with a dry flagstone creek and red bridge. Contemporary design is also apparent in the arches visible from the front door to the full decks on the back of the house.

Their number one goal for the exterior though was to have fun on the water and not to have a single blade of lawn turf which would require mowing. Rocks, stones, ledges of all shapes and sizes surround small areas of astro turf invented for dogs, which contain a charcoal filter base and a sprinkler system to keep it clean.

The home tour is a benefit tour of premier homes in the Lake area that are not only beautiful, but also offer a variety of unique qualities and décor. Both full and part-time residents generously entrust their homes to us for one day so that the general public can tour them.

To date over its nearly quarter-century run the home tour has raised more than $275,000 for local charities and scholarships.

This year’s proceeds will benefit Kids’ Harbor and S.A.R.T. (Sexual Assault Response Team) out of Lake Regional as the two organizations work cooperatively. Scholarships will also be awarded to adult students at Lake Career and Technical Center in Camdenton looking to return to the work force.
